Designed by the renowned italian designer aldo tura, this exceptional bar cabinet from the 1950s is a true statement of luxury and mid-century craftsmanship. Celebrated for his innovative use of lacquered goatskin parchment and richly finished surfaces, tura created furniture that seamlessly combines functionality with artistic expression.
this cabinet showcases elegant proportions, refined detailing, and a warm, sophisticated appearance that has become synonymous with his work. Inside, it offers practical storage for bottles and glassware while maintaining its sculptural presence when closed.
the upper corners of both doors have a small restauration, while the cabinet otherwise remains in beautiful vintage condition. Highly sought after by collectors worldwide, aldo tura's creations are admired for their rarity, timeless elegance, and unmistakable italian glamour, making this cabinet a remarkable addition to any refined interior.
jacques leo senior archivist of archivio tura have carefully reviewed the images i provided and can confirm that the cabinet submitted for our verification is an original aldo tura design and production.
it is a rare version and variant of model 1001. Personally, he had not previously encountered this model with the distinctive coin-shaped front handles. However, this detail is fully consistent with other tura pieces produced during the 1960s, which feature similar decorative elements. The cabinet also presents several other construction and stylistic characteristics that are fully consistent with model 1001.
one aspect that is still not widely known today is that every article produced by tura was identified by a specific reference number, corresponding to a precise model within the company’s production system. This numbering is particularly important for the archivio today, as it allows us to identify and compare individual pieces with the original production records, photographs, drawings and catalogues preserved in the collection.
as this example represents a production variant of the standard model, its correct identification can be indicated as model 1001/f. The suffix “/f” was in fact used by the company to distinguish production variants from the main reference model.
this specific variant is not represented in the official archival documentation. This is not unusual, however, as certain variations were produced either in response to specific client requests or as experimental versions of existing models.
i would also like to point out that the door hinges are clearly not original and appear to have been replaced at a later stage. This is, however, a secondary intervention which, in our opinion, does not significantly affect the overall integrity or good general condition of the cabinet, nor, of course, its attribution. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
