The … Read more This small armchair, crafted from solid beechwood, was designed by the Dutch cabinetmaker, designer, and architect Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964). The idea originated in 1918. Rietveld aimed to create a novel piece of seating furniture that would be simple and inexpensive to produce. His early versions were made exclusively from natural wood, as is the armchair we are offering here. Later, through his encounters with the artists Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, the founders of the De Stijl movement, color was introduced. Thus, the "Slat Chair" evolved into the now iconic "Red and Blue Chair." Our example is from an unknown production run, likely dating from the 1980s. The armchair is sturdily built and easily supports the weight of an adult. However, it is quite narrow, and its proportions make it more suitable as a child's chair. Good, stable condition with signs of use such as light scratches and a small chip. Seat height 25cm. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
