Beautifully modeled throughout, the piece features detailed scales, fins, feathers and drapery beneath a softly aged green and brown verdigris patina.

The composition follows the classical European tradition of putti with dolphins or fantastical fish used in fountains and garden ornament. Given its heavy cast construction and marine subject, the bronze may originally have served as a fountain or architectural garden element before being mounted on the present black wooden plinth.

Unsigned. Measures approximately 17 inches high. The bronze retains an attractive aged surface with verdigris and oxidation consistent with age; the later wooden base shows some wear. A wonderfully sculptural decorative piece, fantastic as a focal point on a pedestal or in large scale shelving. This is very heavy. See less
