Greystoke chair by alfredo arribas, 1988
a very limited production greystoke chair, designed in 1988 by architect and interior designer alfredo arribas. This piece was designed specifically for one of the most unique spanish design projects on an international level: the "the barna crossing" leisure center in fukuoka, japan. A pioneering creative venture born from a commission by the company jasmac and shi yu chen.
the chair was created specifically for the complex's restaurant, a spectacular space situated on three cantilevered platforms. In this setting, chef montse guillén brought to life the concept of "crossing" by fusing catalan and japanese cuisine. Arribas applied this same philosophy of avant-garde fusion to the design of this chair, whose precise production was entrusted to carlos jané.
the project is a time capsule that encapsulates the effervescence of barcelona in the late 1980s. To bring this project to fruition, arribas orchestrated an exceptional multidisciplinary team, including designers such as quim larrea and juli capella for coordination, josep puig for industrial design, alfonso sostres for image, montse guillen for gastronomy, chu uroz for costumes, mingus b. Formentor for music, and contributions from artists of the caliber of javier mariscal, antoni miralda, francesca llopis, salvador saura, and ramón torrente.
its lines achieve a masterful balance between functionality and a thoroughly transgressive aesthetic. Furthermore, this collection is preserved in exceptional condition, a particularly noteworthy circumstance given its rarity and its connection to such an emblematic project. We are presented with a valuable historical testament to contemporary design and an evocative collector's item. Ideal for lovers of designer furniture seeking to incorporate an exclusive design into their surroundings, an undeniable symbol of the convergence of avant-garde movements at the end of the 20th century. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
