Each side of the jardiniere is shaped as the bust of a fashionable young woman with short, bobbed hair, her face framed by exuberant stylized poppy flowers and flowing scrolls in a distinctly Jugendstil manner. The architectural form and organic shaped handles also reflect the fashionable Art Nouveau, Jugendstil and Vienna Secession aesthetic of the late 19th and early 20th century.

This jardiniere is well suited to a variety of interiors such as bohemian, traditional and eclectic, while its clean lines also allow it to work beautifully in more contemporary settings. Numbered 25 on the underside (see photo). We have seen similar examples described as WMF / Plewkiewicz. WMF maintained a close commercial relationship with this Warsaw metalware company as a means of gaining access to the Russian market. WMF supplied unfinished goods, which were then silver plated in Warsaw before being exported to Russia.
