An authentic 19th-century English Victorian sanded majolica art pottery vase manufactured by Thomas Forester & Sons at the Phoenix Works in Longton, Staffordshire, England. Circa 1880s–1890s.
This highly collectible Pattern 46 baluster vessel features a distinctive, tactile sand-glazed upper body detailed with a hand-painted gold gilt fish-scale motif. The textured sandstone body transitions sharply into a brilliant, glossy cobalt blue glazed lower base. The interior throat features a soft, contrasting celadon/seafoam green crackle glaze. The white-glazed foot ring is hand-marked with the original blue factory pattern inventory number "46" and a brown artisan's registry mark.
An exceptional, richly textured accent piece perfectly suited for traditional, Eclectic, or Grandmillennial interior design styles.
Condition
Very Good Antique Condition. Displays minor, age-appropriate surface wear consistent with a 130+ year old piece. The hand-painted gold detailing shows slight rubbing and thinning from handling, along with a few minor, original factory glaze pops and tiny flea-bites at the zigzag border junctions. Free of structural cracks, repairs, or major chips.
