An iconic and fine antique 19th-century Wedgwood black Jasperware "Portland Vase". Masterfully crafted in matte black dip stoneware, this classic amphora-form vase features exquisite white bas-relief cameo depictions of classical figures from the mythological marriage of Peleus and Thetis, flanked by dual curved double-handles ending in satyr heads.
The base features the relief portrait figure wearing a Phrygian cap. Inspired by the famous 1st-century Roman cameo glass Portland Vase in the British Museum, this fine English antique represents Wedgwood's highest craftsmanship. Impressed with the authentic "WEDGWOOD" mark on the underside. A prized centerpiece for English pottery collectors and neoclassical art enthusiasts.
