The desk has three drawers with beautifully figured burl wood fronts and oval brass-tone ring pulls. Carved fan motifs flank the drawer bank, while scrolling ornament beneath the center drawer adds further architectural detail. The base features turned and fluted supports, carved leaf decoration, and graceful sweeping legs with contrasting wood accents at the feet.

During restoration, black painted accents were added to selected portions of the desk, creating a bold contrast with the warm wood tones and emphasizing the piece’s carved and neoclassical detailing.

A low gallery runs along the rear of the writing surface, and the center drawer retains fitted interior compartments. The original Berkey & Gay Furniture maker’s label remains present inside.

At 46 inches wide and only 19 inches deep, the desk offers a generous work surface without requiring the depth of a traditional full-size desk. It would work beautifully as a writing desk, library desk, dressing table, or statement piece in a study, bedroom, living room, or entry. See less
