Vintage American folk art counter stool featuring an unusually detailed hand-painted farm scene on a round wood seat with turned legs and stretcher construction.
The painted top depicts a substantial country farmhouse and red barn surrounded by mature trees and flowering gardens. A deep forest-green painted edge frames the scene and contrasts beautifully with the warm natural wood base.
Signed “Debbie Palmer” and dated 1994, the painting is particularly well executed for a piece of decorative furniture, with considerable attention given to the architecture, landscape and charming narrative details. Tiny figures, horses, a carriage, fencing, flower gardens and farm buildings reward a closer look, giving the stool the character of a miniature folk painting as much as a functional piece of furniture.
