A French Louis XV style miniature commode, or sample chest. Hand-crafted of solid cherry with decorative mother of pearl and ebony inlay. Three dovetailed drawers with turned button knobs. Hand carved cabriole feet. French polish finish. Often called an apprentice or "sample" piece (maîtrise), these high-quality miniatures were built by 19th century craftsmen to demonstrate mastery over complex veneer techniques or to showcase furniture designs to wealthy clients before committing to full-sized builds. Perfect for storing treasured objects, for use as a jewelry box or men's watch box. Circa 1900-1910
