The tall back is crowned by an ornate carved crest above a row of turned spindles, with turned finials at either side. Long curved wooden arms flow into the folding frame, giving the chair an elegant sculptural profile whether viewed from the front or side.

The chair retains a rich, dark warm-toned wood finish showing the character expected of an antique piece. The seat and back have been reupholstered at a later date in a tapestry-style textile with wine and vineyard motifs. The upholstery is not believed to be original and could easily serve as-is or be replaced with a textile selected to complement a new interior.

Its folding construction makes this an especially interesting example of late Victorian occasional furniture—equally suited as an accent chair, decorative bedroom chair, library piece or addition to a collected interior. See less
