A very unique original artwork by contemporary British artist Dave Boyd, which has been constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards), and mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

At the centre sits a slender vertical grid of coloured squares, composed with careful precision. Muted shades of burgundy, dusty rose, charcoal, warm brown, soft ivory, pale blue-grey, and crimson are arranged in an understated sequence, each square subtly interacting with its neighbour. The composition recalls a restrained colour study, where balance and proportion take precedence over complexity.

The surrounding reclaimed materials lend the work remarkable depth and character, as it provides a tactile counterpoint to the crisp geometry of the coloured grids. The generous negative space lends the work a sense of calm, while the contrast between the orderly geometry and the organic imperfections of the reclaimed surface creates a quiet yet compelling tension.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials.
