A very unique original artwork by contemporary British artist Dave Boyd, which has been constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards), and mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

At the centre is a vertical arrangement of geometric forms composed of repeating blue and ivory triangles. The simple motif creates a rhythmic sequence of interlocking diagonals, drawing the eye through the composition with a quiet sense of movement.

The expansive field of reclaimed materials provides a beautifully understated backdrop. The soft brown surface reveal the fibres, textures, and subtle imperfections of their previous life, offering a tactile contrast to the crisp geometry of the central design. The generous use of negative space enhances the work’s calm, meditative quality, allowing the patterned column to become the quiet focal point.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials, with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.
