This piece is a French country provincial-style hanging wall shelf, lined with "toile de Jouy" fabric and accented with stylized floral borders.
It features a classic monochrome scenic print in pastoral red or rust tones, depicting trees and figures in a natural landscape. Each tier’s edge is scalloped, painted dark green, and adorned with hand-applied peach or pink floral motifs.
Traditionally, these compact multi-tiered shelves held small items, spice jars, or personal effects in a home’s entryway. Here, the simple backing paper, flat panel shelves, and small accent nails reflect the charm of rural French provincial folk art and decorative storage.

Small in structure, it has a visual impact that sets it apart from other French provincial entranceway shelving. The fabric is indeed faded, torn in places, or at least worn down, which adds to its charm. We believe all coverings are original, and the paint detail is also original, though the hangers may have been added later. The wood underneath is structurally sound, though we’re unsure of the type of wood as identifying it would require removing some of the materials. less
