These Types of Measures Were Used for … Read more his Really is an Exceptionally Nice Authentic Antique American Country Primitive Dry Measure. These Types of Measures Were Used for Grains, Rice, Beans, Seeds, Flour, Etc. They were Typically Used in Country Stores - Retailers - Farms Etc.

NOTE that This One However has Two Very Unusual Added Features. 1 - The Internal Hand Wrought Iron Cross Bar and Post Most Likely to aid as a Handle as But More Importantly For Stacking Purposes When Filled. 2 - The Front is Hot Iron Branded with The Initials G and K, a Five Point Star, and The Date 1860 - Possibly in Reference to the Name of the Owner or Name of the Establishment. These Features Lead Me to Believe it it was Actually Made and Intended to Be Used by a Gristmill or Granary.

It is Completely and Substantially Hand Made with Thick Steam Bent Indigenous North American Ash Wood Sides. It is Also Bolstered with 2 Steel Rings - Straps at Top and Bottom Rims Plus 6 Vertical at the Mid Section. It Still Retains its Original Old Varnish that has Developed a Wonderful Color & Patina. The Metal Has Some Very Light Surface Rust Etc. It Also has Some Age and Use Related Cracks at Bottom and Sides. It Displays Beautifully with that Honest Aged and Used Look that Cannot be Duplicated. I Purchased This Piece in the Down East Coastal Maine Region.
