The gentleman, in a plumed hat and frock coat, gestures toward his companion, who is seated beside an openwork rocaille support entwined with grapevine and blackberries.

the piece bears the underglaze blue ludwigsburg mark (interlaced "c" beneath a crown) on the base. The group carries a parisian provenance label from "antiquités xvii–xviii, jeanne-marie béalu," a boulevard saint-germain antiques dealer.
