This stunning, highly Colllectible vintage Rosenthal Studio-Linie porcelain art vase designed by the legendary Italian constructivist and Op Art designer Marcello Morandini.
This is the rare, monumental 13-inch tall version (model 3773/32), featuring an impressive 5-inch wide base. While the smaller 8.5-inch and 10-inch models appear on the market from time to time, this largest iteration is incredibly difficult to find and serves as a true architectural statement piece for any interior.

The vase features Morandini’s signature avant-garde, geometric approach. It is constructed of pristine white matte bisque porcelain, styled to look like seamlessly stacked, spiraling rings that culminate in a dramatic, angled rim. The interior is glazed to hold water safely, while the exterior retains a premium, smooth matte texture.
The bottom is fully backstamped with the official Rosenthal Germany Studio-Linie hallmark and features the printed facsimile signature of Marcello Morandini.

The largest sculptural matte white porcelain “Serpentina” vase designed by Marcello Morandini for Rosenthal Studio-Line is form 3773/32 and was produced in 1985 and embodies Morandinit’s signature language— spiraling geometry, mathematical clarity, and an almost musical sense of movement.

Defined by a continuous helix that rises around the body toward an asymmetric opening. The effect recalls a porcelain ribbon wound around a central axis. The repeated spiral gives the forms a clear sense of movement, while the matte white surface softens the geometry and brings out subtle changes in light and shadow. The design produces a striking dialogue of proportion, rhythm and architectural elegance.


“Serpentina” reflects Marcello Morandini’s interest in repetition, mathematical order and the transformation of simple geometry through movement. The single spiral line makes the vase appear different from every angle, connecting a functional porcelain form with the optical investigations of Concrete Art.

Marcello Morandini, born in Mantua in 1940, studied at the Brera Academy in Milan and became a leading European representative of Concrete Art. His work moves between art and industrial design, often using repetition and a reduced black-and-white palette. His extensive collaboration with Rosenthal included porcelain objects, a chess set and large-scale façade designs for the Thomas factory in Speichersdorf and Rosenthal’s administrative building in Selb.

Founded in Selb, Bavaria, in 1879, Rosenthal became one of Germany’s leading porcelain manufacturers. Through Studio-Line, the company worked with international artists and designers to develop experimental forms for modern interiors.

In the vintage art glass and porcelain market, scale matters significantly. Collectors and interior designers heavily favor the largest size because it works as a statement floor or large mantelpiece object.
