Pitcher features a rich coral-red, textured and frosted glass body contrasted by vivid green glass accents. The tall slender sculptural form features a rounded body, elongated neck and curved applied handle. Multiple raised green and red horizontal glass ribs encircle the neck, creating a graphic accent and emphasizing the hand worked character of the piece. The surface has the characteristic matte, weathered appearance associated with Scavo glass to evoke the soft, opaque appearance of ancient Roman glass recovered from archaeological excavations. A polished pontil mark remains on the underside, supporting its handblown construction. The bold color combination, simplified sculptural form, and emphasis on surface texture are characteristic of the Italian art glass that flourished during the postwar decades.
