The cow is hand painted in warm, reddish brown patches against a creamy white ground, with expressive facial features, upright ears and horns, and a wonderfully curated tail that forms the handle.

The figure stands on its original oval base, decorated in softly mottled green to suggest grass. A fitted circular lid, painted with matching reddish brown decoration, opens from the cows back to reveal the creamer beneath – an ingenuous and highly decorative form that makes these Staffordshire pieces so appealing to collectors.

The combination of sculptural form, hand painted decoration, and playful subject matter gives this piece tremendous display presence. It is equally at home in a collection of antique Staffordshire, English pottery, or decorative animal figures, and would make an especially charming accent in a traditional kitchen, country house, or English inspired interior.
