The title janus refers to the roman god of beginnings and endings, who is typically depicted with two faces looking to the past and future! Ossorio's style in this piece combines the frenetic lines of his earlier abstract expressionists work with scattered orbs and fragments resembling his later assemblages, known as Congregations. Ossorio was a wealthy and well-educated artist known for his Abstract Expressionist paintings and sculptural works. He was a colleague and collector of Jean Dubuffet and Jackson Pollock. See less
