Decorative Vintage Apothecary/Pharmacy Jars with Lids. Each features a creamy ivory ground enriched with gilt trim, molded finial lids, and illustrated botanical decoration. The cylindrical vessels are inscribed in bold pharmaceutical lettering with "NUX VOMICA" AND FOL. BELLAD." Nux Vomica refers to the seed of the Strychnine tree, while Fol. Bellad. refers to the Belladonna tree. Each inscription is framed by a botanical cartouche depicting colorful leaves, flowers, stems, and fruit, creating a decorative interpretation of traditional European pharmacy vessels. Traditional apothecary jars have a long history in Europe where they were used to store and identify medicinal ingredients and preparations.
In modern times, these jars will make an excellent display for collectors of antique pharmacy, scientific and botanical antiques, or vintage ceramics. They can be displayed on a bookshelf, library cabinet, or etagere in a kitchen, powder room, or study.
