From Vero Shaw's "The Illustrated Book of the Dog" (Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, ca. 1881), one of the most admired Victorian dog books, with its plates chromolithographed by the celebrated London firm Vincent Brooks, Day & Son (credited at lower right). Titled in the stone at top left, "Cassell's Illustrated Book of the Dog," and captioned below, "Mr. R. T. Lloyd Price's Pointer 'Wagg'" — the Lloyd Prices being a noted sporting family of the day.

The chromolithograph shows the bright, characterful coloring these prints are prized for: the crisp liver-and-white of the pointer against soft green grass, muted grey-blue sky, and warm brown brush. Attractively double-matted with a linen-textured mount in a burl-grain wood frame — a classic, collectible piece of 19th-century sporting and canine art.

The frame is 14.5" W x 12.25" H x 0.75" D. The print is 9.5" W x 7.5" H.

It was originally part of a gallery wall in a lakeside home in Vermont that was decorated in the 1950s through the 1970s. It would really go well in a gallery wall (in our opinion!)
