A New York Neoclassic wash stand in mahogany, circa 1825–30, with a bowed basin shelf set on a conforming apron … Read more A New York Neoclassic wash stand in mahogany, circa 1825–30, with a bowed basin shelf set on a conforming apron and scroll-cut splash. Dramatically carved "S" scrolls support the front of the upper shelf and extend down to the medial shelf drawer, which is fitted with paired, stamped gilt brass drop ring pulls. The upper shelf has a circular opening for a basin, flanked by two smaller holes sized for a cup or mug, and a custom solid mahogany removable top has been fitted over the basin shelf. Turned elements at the rear of the basin shelf continue into turned legs with ring and spike feet. Mahogany and figured mahogany veneers, with a Spanish cedar drawer interior. This piece would make a dynamic side table or unusual bar cart.
