A handsome mid-century modern bookcase headboard by Mainline, the sought-after modern line from Hooker Furniture. It was purchased new in 1957 and had only one owner since. it's a clean example of the walnut-and-cane look that made the Mainline collection a favorite of the era.
The headboard pairs richly grained walnut with two sliding doors faced in woven cane, each set in a mitered wood frame and fitted with a small round brass knob. The doors glide open to reveal storage, flanking an open central cubby — the classic bookcase-headboard layout that keeps books, a lamp, or a clock (with hole already cut for wires) within easy reach. A book-matched walnut panel spans the lower section, and the whole piece carries the warm, honeyed tone and quality craftsmanship Hooker built its reputation on.
A true statement piece for a mid-century bedroom, and increasingly collectible as original Mainline pieces get harder to find in this condition.

There is a crudely cut hole inside the middle compartment for wires to pass down behind the headboard, and minor starches on the back of the middle compartment as seen in the photos. The backside of the headboard has some original foam that is worn and meant to be placed against a wall. The bottom part of the headboard is not painted or crudely spray painted -- this is original and will not be visible once there is a mattress on the bed. There is no footboard or side boards; this is just a headboard. less
