A striking hand-painted porcelain bust of a German Shepherd, produced by Zaphir, a gift-line brand of the renowned Spanish porcelain house Lladró, in Spain most likely in the 1970s.
The sculpture captures the breed's alert, intelligent expression, with upright ears, an open mouth, and a protruding tongue rendered in soft pink. The coat is naturalistically glazed in layered tans, blacks, and creams. Marked "Zaphir · Made in Spain" in green on the underside. A handsome, expressive piece for the German Shepherd lover or collector of porcelain or all things dog. It looks great on a bookshelf and would work well as an accent piece more generally.
