An exceptional, example of late Georgian to early Regency period English pottery, circa 1790–1820. Attributed to the historic Staffordshire or Leeds pottery districts, this pristine utilitarian masterpiece is an incredibly rare find for the discerning collector.

While most everyday kitchen wares of this era suffered heavy chips or lost their lids entirely over the centuries, this specimen has survived beautifully intact. The body and matching lid feature a deeply molded, classical radial fluting pattern. The lid is complete with its original molded flower-bud knop and the essential hand-cut spoon notch.

True to authentic period pearlware, the translucent lead glaze displays a pronounced cobalt-blue pooling in the crevices and recesses, a technique introduced to enhance the whiteness of the clay. The handle is hand-applied with classic foliate terminal tabs pressed firmly into the ribbed body. The underside remains flat and unmarked, precisely as expected for early 19th-century English tablewares.

Size: 4” across with the handle, 3 1/2” deep, 2 3/4” tall

Condition: Excellent antique condition. Small chip on the underside of the lid.

While it is extraordinarily rare to find completely devoid of chips, cracks, or structural repairs. The surviving example is a rarity nonetheless of the minor flaw. The glaze possesses a tight, fine, all-over network of micro-crazing and subtle, uniform age-toning that beautifully validates its 200+ year journey. Absolutely stable and display-ready. See less
