Her extravagance was legendary - her accessories at various times included turbaned manservants, liveried gondoliers (she owned the only white gondola in Venice), a pair of cheetahs, boa constrictors, several rare birds, and a monkey.
Born into tremendous wealth, La Marchesa died destitute in Mayfair, however, to this day, Casati remains an enigmatic and intoxicating muse. Her daring personal style was emulated by artists and designers throughout the Twentieth Century and continues to inspire today. She was painted by Boldini and Augustus John, photographed by Man Ray and Cecil Beaton, dressed by Fortuny, Poiret and Erté. Personal family mementoes, paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs illustrate her life and influence.
