The rich opaque black glass provides a dramatic background for the floral decoration and gives this box considerable presence.

The cylindrical body is fitted with brass mounts, including a band encircling the box, two small round side handles and an especially attractive S-form closure. The combination of black opaline glass, floral enamel decoration and warm aged brass is quintessentially French.

Dating to the late 19th century, possibly approaching the turn of the 20th century, the box remains in very good antique condition. See less
