Sprosen. Sprosen was a prominent, documented master chairmaker who was active in Philadelphia from 1783 to 1786 and then in New York from 1789-1798.

A continuous-arm brace-back Windsor chair is the crown jewel of 18th-century Windsor styles. Known for its elegant, single continuous piece of steam-bent wood that forms both the back bow and the arms, this specific form represents the peak of early American chairmaking complexity. This Sprosen chair is an elegant, well-preserved example of the style.

The chair has been owned and carefully cared for by our family for the past 100 years. It remains sturdy and stable today, displaying a natural wear and patina appropriate for a piece of its significant age. See less
