Featuring a classic 2 … Read more This early American or Sheraton accent table stands as a testament to early 19th century craftsmanship. Featuring a classic 2 drawer configuration it boasts an elegant, refined silhouette characterized by delicately hand turned spindle legs tapering down to neat peg feet.
The primary wood presents a deep rich natural grain with a beautiful patina of golden-brown highlights and deep cherry wood.
It retains its original wood drawer knobs although they are very worn.
They were obviously installed by the original cabinet maker.
The joinery features pristine hand cut dovetail joints on the draw boxes displaying the characteristic thin slightly irregular saw pins unique to early 1800 woodworking.
Most importantly the bottom face of the second drawer features an original scripted signature apparently by the maker, "Russell #31" apparently indicating the artisan's name.
Thus, we can perhaps attribute the manufacturer or maker of this furniture to David Russell (active circa 1800 to 1830) in the Winchester, Virginia/ Mid-Atlantic region.
It is notable that the "R" is highly scripted with a cursive looping top indicating a more formal education or apprenticeship.
The piece is completely solid, stable and structurally sound.
Both drawers slide out smoothly with their original hand planned internal tracks intact.
The top is somewhat alligatored and scratched. See less
