An antique English rosewood wall mirror, circa 1901, retaining the original label of London picture frame maker Ernest Alden of 39 King’s Road, Sloane Square.
The substantial frame is made of richly figured rosewood, with broad moldings arranged to showcase the beautiful grain and deep reddish-brown color of the wood. A narrow giltwood slip provides a crisp contrast between the rosewood frame and the beveled mirror plate.
The original paper label on the reverse identifies Ernest Alden at 39 King’s Road, Sloane Square, London, and notes the firm's work as picture framers, restorers and dealers. Alden, active as a dealer between 1893-1940, is recorded at this address beginning in 1901.
The beveled mirror plate is a later 20th-century addition.
A handsome and substantial English mirror distinguished by its beautifully figured rosewood and restrained design.
