This work has been realized by the French artist and engraver Jules Lefebvre. Jules Joseph Lefebvre (Tournan-en-Brie, 1836 - Paris, 1912) was a French academic painter. Very fine portraitist he has been the rival of William-Adolphe Bouguereau for his female nudes. Lefebvre was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and won the Prix de Rome in 1861. From 1855 to 1898 he exhibited 72 portraits in the Paris Salon. He taught at the Académie Julian, where he had numerous students. Lefebvre owed his fame mainly to his female nudes, a genre in which he rivaled William-Adolphe Bouguereau. In 1878, he won a first-class medal at the Paris Expo and a medal of honor at the Salon in 1886. In 1891, he was elected member of the ''Académie des Beaux-Arts'' and was appointed commander of the Legion of honor. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
