A wonderfully decorative vintage Louis XVI Revival armchair combining elegant Neoclassical form with distinctive Wedgwood-style classical medallion details.
The wooden frame is finished in a soft grey painted finish and features a carved scrolling crest, graceful open arms, fluted front legs, and delicate hand-painted Neoclassical ornamentation. Centered prominently within the carved crest is an oval black medallion featuring a raised cream classical figural scene reminiscent of traditional Wedgwood jasperware. Smaller cameo-style classical profile medallions ornament the front stiles beneath the arms.
The chair is upholstered in an elegant grey damask fabric with coordinating lavender-grey cord trim. Decorative tassels at the corners of the seat add another layer of traditional detail.
The painted frame retains an appealing time-worn surface with rubbing, losses, and patina consistent with vintage use. These variations give the chair wonderful character and complement its European-inspired design.
With its unusual combination of painted Neoclassical decoration, classical medallions, damask upholstery, and sculptural frame, this is a particularly charming statement chair for a bedroom, dressing room, library, living room, or entry.
