Antique circa 1890 silver-plated figural cigar cutter featuring a handsome hound/hunting dog profile surrounded by raised foliate decoration. A substantial, well-built example with a long spring-loaded cutting mechanism, circular thumb lever and flared cigar opening.
Measures approximately 6 3/8" long, 1 1/16" wide at the widest point, and approximately 1 1/4" at the thumb lever.
The cutter mechanism moves freely and appears to operate as intended. This piece shows honest wear consistent with considerable age and use, including scratches, small nicks, surface marks, tarnish/patina and areas of silver-plate loss, particularly across the flat underside. The raised dog and foliate decoration remain nicely defined. Please review all photos closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
A wonderful late-19th-century tobacco collectible with strong sporting/hunting appeal and a particularly solid, functional construction.
