This is a vintage Chippendale or French-style walnut writing desk showcasing highly ornate period-style craftsmanship.
Key Design Characteristics
Materials & Finish: Built from rich, medium-to-dark tone solid wood (likely walnut) with a smooth, expansive rectangular top surface showing a visible grain pattern.
Ornate Carvings: The knees of each leg feature heavily sculpted animal heads—specifically matching a traditional ram's head motif—accented with textured fur or fleece detailing that flows downward.
Cabriole Legs: Supported by dramatic, S-curved cabriole legs tapering down to stylized acanthus leaf carvings and resting on classic pad or scroll feet.
Storage Feature: Outfitted with a single slim, pull-out center drawer framed by an intricate, repeating gadroon or egg-and-dart decorative border along the lower apron.

- This beautiful desk has been heavily used during it's lifetime. The gentleman I purchased it from bought it new and … moreThis beautiful desk has been heavily used during it's lifetime. The gentleman I purchased it from bought it new and used it for his primary at home business. There are multiple scratches, knicks, bumps, a paint mark, and a few scratches. There is some evidence of water marks on top although those aren't as obvious without looking closely. Despite the flaws, this piece can and should be used in as is condition. An occasional oil based cleaning will downplay the flaws, and make it such that these use marks become part of its overall character. See photos for better detail of the condition. less
