Vintage Chippendale-style mahogany wall mirror, circa 1950, featuring a beautifully shaped fretwork frame with scrolling pierced crest, carved gilt shell ornament and gilt inner border surrounding the rectangular mirror plate.
Based on Georgian Chippendale fretwork mirrors of the 18th century, the frame has an especially attractive silhouette, with sweeping side scrolls and a shaped lower apron balancing the elaborate crest. The rich reddish-brown mahogany and restrained gilt decoration give the mirror a refined traditional character without feeling overly formal.
A handsome decorative mirror for an entry hall, powder room, bedroom or above a small chest or console.
