The is large finely carved statue of the Christ child, Salvator Mundi (Savior of the world) attributed to or from the school of Juan de Mesa (1583-Córdoba 1627-Seville).
The carving depicts a nude standing infant Jesus, his right hand is raised in a traditional gesture of blessing, while his left hand points forward towards us. The Christ Child stands atop a base that is carved as a cloud formation & decorated with two winged cherubs/putti, the carved base is a highly detailed, matching Baroque carved wood pedestal decorated with scrolling volutes, acanthus leaves, and stylized organic elements & raised on carved lion's paw feet.

Biography
Juan de Mesa was a master Spanish Baroque sculptor who created some of the most realistic and emotionally intense religious wood carvings in history. Born in Córdoba, Spain, and trained in Seville, he apprenticed under Juan Martínez Montañés, who was the region's leading classical sculptor.
He used raw, dramatic, and anatomically precise Baroque realism and fulfilled the Catholic Counter-Reformation mandate by using vivid physical suffering to evoke deep public devotion.
He carved Seville's most revered processional icons, including Jesús del Gran Poder and Cristo de la Buena Muerte. Many of his works were misattributed to his master for centuries until archival contracts restored his status as a Baroque master.
