Exceptional piece of late 19th-century American art glass an original Mt. Washington Crown Milano melon-ribbed biscuit jar.

This highly collectible vessel showcases a magnificent raised gold-gilded portrait profile of an Art Nouveau maiden or child with flowing hair, beautifully complemented by delicate hand-enameled daisy elements featuring intricate raised "jeweled" beaded centers.

The opaque cream satin glass body is paired with its original custom-fitted silver-plated rim, bail handle, and decorative domed lid.

The underside of the silver-plated lid holds rare, highly desirable historical hallmarks that trace its direct factory lineage:

Features the crisp signature "S B" (Smith Brothers) initials struck directly over the factory "M W" (Mt. Washington) logo. This represents a highly coveted crossover era where the Smith Brothers firm applied their custom finishings to a blown Mt. Washington glass mold.

Deeply imprinted with design mold number 4402.

Includes hand-scribed worker alphanumeric marks right next to the model numbers, ensuring a custom match between the lid and glass at the factory workbench.

This exact mold form is explicitly documented in the definitive collectors' reference book, Mt. Washington Art Glass by Betty Sisk (Page 111).

Excellent used antique condition. No chips, cracks, fleabites, or structural repairs. Glass retains its original smooth, velvety acid-etched matte finish. The hand-painted gold leaf portrait and surrounding daisies are remarkably crisp, displaying only minor, expected age-related shelf wear. The hand-applied raised enamel dot details remain intact. The original factory plaster mounting ring is present and structurally sound underneath the silver plated collar. The metal rim sits firmly on the glass body with no loose movement or non-factory glue repairs. The handle and lid are sturdy and fully functional. The silver plate displays a gorgeous, authentic dark antique patina with minimal oxidation. It has intentionally been left unpolished to preserve its vintage integrity. See less
