A spectacular and exceptionally unusual signed Phyllis Morris monumental wrought iron wine and cheese entertaining stand, designed in the wonderfully theatrical Hollywood style for which the legendary Los Angeles designer became known.
Phyllis Morris, celebrated as the “Designer to the Stars,” created distinctive furnishings for some of Hollywood’s most glamorous personalities and became renowned for dramatic scale, whimsical forms and unapologetically bold interiors.
Standing an impressive 83 inches high, this sculptural freestanding server features an architectural birdcage-inspired domed crown, slender wrought iron framework, multiple integrated bottle/accessory holders, a substantial removable round wood serving or butcher-block surface, and a circular lower iron storage compartment.
The thick wood serving board displays beautiful natural grain, age and surface character and is prominently signed “Phyllis Morris” along the edge, providing an important identifying feature.
The extraordinary vertical proportions make this as much a piece of functional sculpture as an entertaining accessory. Its combination of dark wrought iron, naturally aged wood and whimsical architectural detailing embodies the dramatic, eclectic character associated with Phyllis Morris interiors.
