Measuring an impressive 35 inches wide, this oversized bowl has a long, shallow trough form with thick irregular walls and a beautifully sculptural silhouette. The interior retains pronounced hand-tool marks, extensive surface texture and a rich, naturally developed brown patina. No two areas of the surface are quite alike.
The underside is equally compelling, retaining the irregularities, checking, wear and evidence of hand-working expected from an early utilitarian object. Rather than detracting from the piece, these characteristics give the bowl the wonderfully imperfect quality sought after in primitive and folk furnishings.
Originally made as a functional household vessel, today it makes a striking decorative centerpiece on a large farmhouse table, console, kitchen island or oversized coffee table. Particularly well suited to primitive, Americana, rustic, Belgian farmhouse, wabi-sabi and collected interiors. See less
