The graceful Federal-style form features a bowed serpentine front, two spacious center drawers, flanking cabinet doors and slender tapered legs with spade feet.

The custom finish is especially well executed, with softly varied blue-gray coloration and restrained gilt accents outlining the drawers, doors, pilasters and feet. Brass-tone hardware complements the painted surface. Behind the doors are generous storage compartments, while the upper right section includes a fitted divided drawer for flatware or serving pieces. Dovetailed drawer construction and warm wood interiors reflect Morganton's quality American furniture production.

JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What makes this piece work for me is the quality of the transformation. The blue-gray and restrained gold detailing weren't simply applied to update an older sideboard—the finish was thoughtfully used to emphasize its serpentine front, slender legs and classical lines. The result feels more Swedish than traditional American and gives a very well-made Morganton sideboard an entirely different personality. I especially like it in a dining room or entry where the color can stand on its own against quieter surroundings.
