Antique tinted lithograph depicting Piazza Colonna in Rome, titled Piazza Colonna al Corso, first created circa 1870 by the French lithographer Ph. Benoist. The work was published in Paris as part of Rome dans sa grandeur (Rome in Its Grandeur), a three-volume topographical work documenting the architecture, monuments, and streetscapes of Rome.
The detailed view captures the lively atmosphere of 19th-century Piazza Colonna, centered around the Column of Marcus Aurelius, with the historic Palazzo Chigi and fountain in the foreground. The tinted coloring adds warmth and dimension to the architectural scene, accentuated with gum arabic for a rich appearance.
With its architectural subject and softly aged palette, this piece works beautifully with European traditional, Italianate, Old World, Grand Tour, French country, Tuscan, Mediterranean, and classic interiors. It would be lovely displayed in a library, hallway, living room, office, or bedroom, either hung on its own or paired with other architectural and travel-themed works as part of a gallery wall.
A wonderful choice for anyone who loves Rome, Italian architecture, historic city views, Grand Tour imagery, European history, or works on paper. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone with a special connection to Italy or an appreciation for historic European places.
It will be carefully packed and shipped fully insured with tracking.
