Charming mid-century Lenwile Ardalt Artware porcelain planter featuring three hand-painted winged cherubs surrounding a sculptural tulip-form vessel.
Made in Japan circa the 1950s, the piece is finished in a delicate palette of pale blue, ivory and blush with hand-applied gilt accents. Three-dimensional porcelain roses, blossoms and leaves decorate the exterior, while three individually modeled cherubs encircle the vessel, creating a whimsical sculptural centerpiece from every angle.
The softly ribbed porcelain body rises into an elegant petal-shaped rim highlighted in gold. Each cherub is hand-painted with expressive facial details, softly blushed coloring and gilt-accented wings.
A wonderful example of romantic mid-century Japanese decorative porcelain, equally beautiful displayed as a planter, vase or standalone decorative object. Its sculptural form works especially well in traditional, Hollywood Regency, French-inspired, romantic or collected interiors.

There are losses and chips to portions of the delicate applied porcelain floral decoration, wear/loss to portions of the gilt detailing, and a chip/loss along one area of the upper petal-form rim. Minor surface marks and signs of age are present throughout. Please review photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description. Despite these imperfections, the piece presents beautifully and retains its charming sculptural character. less
