The armchairs are characterized by their continuous bentwood construction, with the front legs extending upward and flowing into the open armrests. The warm-toned wood contrasts with the neutral beige and brown textured upholstery, while the tall, gently inclined backrests and generously proportioned seats give the chairs a comfortable lounge-chair profile. The sculptural construction is particularly visible from the side and rear. Curved upholstered seat sections appear suspended within the wooden frames, while horizontal wooden supports connect the frame behind each backrest. The combination of bentwood, open armrests and upholstered volumes gives the design a light architectural appearance characteristic of Czech modernist furniture of the period. Karel Koželka and Antonín Kropáček were Czech architects and designers known for their contribution to Czechoslovak modernist furniture design. This pair demonstrates their use of functional construction combined with expressive curved forms. The armchairs retain their older vintage upholstery, which is in very good, well-preserved condition. We do not claim that the upholstery is original to the 1940s. The fabric remains clean and presents well, with minor traces of wear consistent with age and use. The bentwood armchairs are structurally sound. The wooden frames are well preserved and retain a warm age-related patina with minor surface wear consistent with their age. Offered as a pair of two armchairs. Dimensions Width: 68 cm / 26.77 in.
