Framed mid-century oil on canvas portrait of a bearded sea captain wearing a traditional white captain’s cap and smoking a pipe. Dating to approximately the 1960s, the painting is particularly appealing for its expressive face, weathered features and softly rendered white beard. Signed “Rudoep” or possibly “Rudolp” at lower right; artist unidentified.
The captain’s weathered expression and classic maritime subject give the painting plenty of character without feeling overly nautical. Presented in its original-style silver and charcoal frame with a neutral linen-look liner, it is ready to hang.
