It was engraved by Elijah Hinsdale Burritt for his influential star atlas, Atlas designed to illustrate the Geography of the Heavens.

The Chart features:
Relative Magnitudes: Large black circles visually contrast the massive sizes of gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn against the smaller terrestrial planets like Earth and Mars.
Scale Benchmarks: Text along the top arches explains that a segment of the Sun's circumference is drawn to a scale where it is fourteen hundred thousand times as large as Earth.

Orbital Data Diagrams: The middle timeline maps out the relative linear distances of the planets from the Sun. The bottom-left diagram illustrates the Inclination of the Orbits of the planets relative to the plane of the ecliptic. The bottom-right panel provides a comparative scale of the moons (satellites) orbiting Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Elijah H. Burritt (1794–1838) was a Connecticut-born astronomer, mathematician, and pioneering American celestial cartographer, celebrated for transforming the complex science of astronomy into remarkably beautiful and accessible visual form. His landmark Geography of the Heavens and accompanying Atlas of the Heavens became among the most influential American astronomical works of the early 19th century, and his striking celestial engravings are now prized for both their scientific history and exceptional decorative appeal.
