A handsome mid-20th-century American Federal-style convex mirror with a richly gilt frame, carved eagle crest, and layered acanthus leaf decoration. The circular bullseye form is punctuated by thirteen raised spheres around the inner frame, a traditional Federal motif referencing the original thirteen colonies.
The convex glass gives the mirror its characteristic sense of movement, reflecting the room in a softly distorted way rather than as a conventional looking glass. At more than thirty inches high, it has enough presence to anchor a mantel, entry hall, library, or stair landing, while the warm gilt surface works beautifully against painted paneling, old wood, and layered artwork.
