The eagle is depicted with fully outstretched wings, individually modeled feathers, a gold-tone head, and a central red shield held between its talons. A sculptural scrolling banner in a muted green finish extends across the lower portion, creating a classic Federal-inspired composition.
The original multicolor finish has developed attractive age-related character, with warm brown and bronze tones throughout the wings and body contrasting with the gold, red, and green accents. The dimensional casting gives the piece considerable visual presence while retaining the graphic quality associated with mid-century Sexton wall décor.
The reverse is cast with the SEXTON © maker’s mark and retains two metal hanging loops for wall display.
A wonderful piece of vintage Americana for a library, study, office, den, entryway, traditional interior, Colonial Revival setting, or collected gallery wall. Its unusually wide horizontal proportions also make it particularly effective displayed above a console, desk, doorway, or mantel.
