A delightful and exceptionally collectible early 20th-century bentwood convertible children's high chair (Kinderhochstuhl), crafted in the renowned Austro-Hungarian tradition of … Read more A delightful and exceptionally collectible early 20th-century bentwood convertible children's high chair (Kinderhochstuhl), crafted in the renowned Austro-Hungarian tradition of Gebrüder Thonet or Jacob & Josef Kohn (circa 1900–1920). Constructed from solid steam-bent beechwood, this architectural high chair features a sweeping curved backrest, flared structural legs with an integrated circular stabilizing stretcher, a shaped footrest, and an overhead pivoting wooden eating/play tray. The backrest and seat are fitted with traditional hand-woven octagonal Viennese caning (Wiener Geflecht), complemented by an original vintage leather safety strap underneath. Condition Report: Preserved in 100% original, untouched as-found condition. The bentwood structure is exceptionally solid, stable, and strong. The natural cane weaving on both the seat and backrest remains tight, intact, and well-preserved. The wooden tray displays charming, authentic historical wear, featuring numerous indentations and patina marks from repeated strikes with vintage children's cutlery, adding undeniable historic character and storytelling value.
