A rare Austrian Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) ceiling lantern dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920. The design is characterized by a striking geometric architectural form, dark patinated metal framework, finely beveled clear glass panels and sculptural turned finials. The restrained geometry reflects the transition from Viennese Jugendstil and Vienna Secession toward early modernist design.
Its design bears similarities to early 20th-century Viennese architectural lighting associated with the circle and aesthetic of Adolf Loos. However, it is offered as an attribution rather than as a documented work by Loos.
The lantern retains its original character, including the patinated metal finish, beveled glass and original hanging chain.
